Gardening in Oklahoma
Most everyone, at some time or another, gets an urge to try his or her hand at a form of gardening. It may involve flowers. It could be shrubs or trees. Maybe it’s simply a lawn edging. Or, perhaps it’s a vegetable garden for table-variety food. Those who have the time, money and interest may take it farther and make it a major hobby — or even a business.
Gardening in Oklahoma, a state where there is sunshine and even temperatures most of the year, offers opportunities that don’t exist in some areas of the United States. There can be challenges, with dry conditions often continuing for lengthy periods, or soil conditions that require a little assistance. But they can be met and the experience can be a good one.
Deter ‘deer drama’ this winter
Deer do some of their worst damage to your garden, landscape, trees and shrubs in winter, when other food sources are hard to come by.
Gardening expert Loretta Aaron leaves wide legacy
An Oklahoma City gardening expert has died, but her namesake Iris will bloom on as a reminder of the lasting impression she left on so many Oklahoma gardeners. Loretta Aaron, a well-known gardening columnist of 21 years for The Oklahoman, died July 12 at the age of 92.
