Claus Greiner may not sound like an Okie, but Claus and his wife, Helga, have embraced Oklahoma like generations of German immigrants before them. This hard-working couple, who met at school in the small town of Spaichingen near Stuttgart in southern Germany, never have regretted their move to America.

Because of German involvement in wars and economic instability, America became an attractive destination for German immigrants toward the end of the19h century. Most of the Germans who settled in Oklahoma entered the country from the northeast, gradually migrating west. Others came north after arriving in Texas and Louisiana.
